Watch band answers
Does smartwatch case size tell you the band width?
No. Among 56 smartwatch records labeled 42 mm, 7 fitting categories appear. The most common, 20 mm standard quick release, appears in 28 of those 56 records (50.0%). The case-size label alone does not identify the band fitting.
What happens at 42 mm?
Even after restricting the comparison to standard quick release, the 41 records labeled 42 mm use 3 widths: 18 mm, 20 mm, 22 mm. The most frequent is 20 mm, on 28 of 41 records (68.3%). A single case size still gives more than one band-width answer.
| Recorded fitting | Records | Share |
|---|---|---|
| 20 mm standard quick release | 28 | 50.0% |
| Garmin QuickFit 20 | 7 | 12.5% |
| 18 mm standard quick release | 7 | 12.5% |
| 22 mm standard quick release | 6 | 10.7% |
| Apple 44–49 (large band family) | 4 | 7.1% |
| Apple 38–42 (small band family) | 3 | 5.4% |
| Garmin screw-attached bands | 1 | 1.8% |
Is the same true at other case sizes?
These comparisons keep the case-size labels exactly as recorded. Each percentage uses only the standard quick-release records at that case size.

Case size, band width and wrist size are not interchangeable
A case-size label describes the watch body. Standard band width describes the attachment gap. Wrist circumference determines the band length you need. A 42 mm label is not a request for a 42 mm strap, and smartwatch case labels are not all measured along the same axis.
Apple is a useful example: the 42 mm Series 3 and 42 mm Series 10 sit in different recorded Apple band families. The generation is part of the answer.
