How we check compatibility
Methodology · updated 5 October 2026
The model. The size. The connector.
The finder covers 506 watch records across 25 brands. We compare exact manufacturer model codes, full model names, case sizes, and known variants against our structured compatibility research. The connector—not the case size—determines what attaches to the watch.
We distinguish Garmin QuickFit from standard quick release, and both from proprietary fittings. For the strongest identity, check the caseback, box label, or the watch’s Settings → About screen.
When a model has different case sizes, we check each size separately. Versions appear together only when they share the same band fitting. A compatible-band link takes you to the matching collection, with a fitting filter applied where needed.
Dataset date: . Coverage and stock mappings change, so every answer is rechecked against the current public record when a shared link opens.
Type your watch's name or model code into the finder. It shows the exact band fitting your watch uses, for example 22mm quick release for a Garmin Forerunner 255, and View compatible bands lists the bands that fit it. The finder covers 506 watches and trackers across 25 brands, and it warns you when a similar model uses a different fitting: the Forerunner 255S takes 18mm, not 22mm. Then pick the band length that suits your wrist.
Check the back of the smartwatch, the box label or its settings. On your iPhone, open the Watch app → My Watch → General → About. Tap Model Number to reveal the number beginning with A. Samsung model codes start with SM- (for example SM-L320 for a Galaxy Watch 8) and also appear in the Galaxy Wearable app under Watch settings → About watch. Garmin shows the model name under Settings → System → About on most models. You can type either the name or the code into the finder.
Is the watch case size the same as the band width?
No. Case size measures the watch body, while band width measures where the band attaches. In our records, the 56 smartwatches labeled 42mm use 7 different fittings, and the most common one, 20mm quick release, covers 50.0% of them. The width can change within one model line too: the Garmin Forerunner 255 (46mm) takes a 22mm band, while the Forerunner 255S (41mm) takes 18mm.
Are Garmin QuickFit and quick release bands interchangeable?
No. QuickFit bands lock in with a full-width latch, while quick-release bands use a small spring-bar lever, so a 22mm QuickFit band will not fit a watch that takes a 22mm quick-release band. Garmin uses both: fenix, Instinct, epix and the Forerunner 9xx line take QuickFit 20, 22 or 26mm, while Venu, vivoactive and most other Forerunner models take standard quick release. Of the 175 watches in our records with a 22mm fitting of either type, 41 use QuickFit.
No. A 22mm band is too wide for a watch that takes 20mm, and a 20mm band leaves a gap and does not sit securely on a 22mm watch, so the width has to match exactly. 22mm is the most common quick-release width in our records (134 of 282 watches, 47.5%), followed by 20mm (96 watches, 34.0%). To check yours, search your model in the finder or measure the gap between the lugs in millimetres.
Only if both watches use the same fitting. Galaxy Watch 4, 5, 6 and 7 all take 20mm quick release, but Galaxy Watch 8 uses Samsung's Dynamic Lug, so older bands do not fit it. Apple bands carry over within a band family: a band for a 44mm Apple Watch SE also fits a 45mm Series 9 and a 46mm Series 10. Fitbit changed connectors between the Charge 4 and Charge 5. Check both watches in the finder before you reuse a band.
Search your watch in the finder, then select View compatible bands to see the bands that match its fitting. If you know the brand but not the model, start from the watch directory, which lists 506 watches across 25 brands. If we do not stock a band for your fitting, the finder says so, so you know exactly which fitting to look for elsewhere.
We don’t currently sell a compatible band for that device. If it uses a band, the finder shows its recorded fitting. Some devices, such as Oura rings, do not use watch bands.
What happens if there is no reliable match?
The finder will not guess your band fitting. It may ask you to choose a model or case size, show ‘Fitting unavailable’, or return no match. Try the model code or browse the watch directory. If a result looks wrong, use Send a correction.
Do I need an app to use the finder?
No. The finder runs in any phone or desktop browser, so there is nothing to download, and it is free with no account needed. Type your watch's name or model code and the result shows your band fitting straight away. To keep it or pass it on, use Share this fit: the link opens the same result, checked against the current record.
