Suunto Race Bands — What Fits

The Suunto Race (49mm), Race S (45mm) and Race 2 all use a 22mm quick-release band, so the case size difference between Race and Race S doesn't change which bands fit — the lug width is identical across the range.

These bands use the same spring-bar quick-release system as the rest of Suunto's watches: a small lever on the back of the pin lets you pop the old band free and click a new one in without tools.

See the full Suunto Watch Bands collection for bands that fit the Vertical, 9 Peak, 5 Peak, Ocean and Run as well.

A stock band eventually wears at the spring-bar holes from race-day use, and third-party bands give Race owners more style choice than the handful of options that ship with the watch.

Style Guide for the Race

Suunto built the Race as a multisport and racing watch, so a lot of owners want a band ready for race day as well as one for everyday wear.

Racers who train most days typically keep at least one moisture-resistant band on hand and a dressier second option for non-training days, so they're not stuck wearing race gear to the office.

  • Vornis silicone sport band — light and sweat-resistant, the default for training and racing., holding up well through repeated race efforts
  • Rovan magnetic loop — a fast, one-hand adjustment before or after a race., handy on race morning when every second counts
  • Mavric braided loop — an easy stretch-fit band for wearing off the course., easy to pull on for a warm-down walk
  • Solin magnetic milanese — a smarter mesh finish for non-race days., giving the watch a different look for podium photos and beyond
  • Véllo nylon loop — light enough for long ultra-distance efforts., light enough to forget you're wearing it during an ultra
  • Voren nylon loop — a woven alternative with a slightly different casual look., offering another everyday texture to choose from

Fitting Your Race Band

Turn the watch over and locate the spring bar behind the current band. Push its small lever inward to release one side, then slide the band free. Press the new band's spring bar into the lugs until it clicks on both sides.

The whole change takes under a minute, which makes it easy to switch to a fresh band right before a race and back again afterward.

First-time swaps are easiest with the watch resting face-down on a soft surface. If you're ever unsure which width to order, measure the gap between the lugs on the back of the case rather than guessing.

Caring for Your Band

Rinse silicone and nylon bands in fresh water after a race or training session, and let them dry fully before reattaching. Magnetic milanese and magnetic loop bands should be wiped dry instead of rinsed, since water can sit inside the mesh.

Store any band you're not wearing flat and out of direct sunlight, since prolonged heat can dry out silicone and dull a milanese finish over time.

Which Watches Don't Fit These Bands

These 22mm bands are sized for the Race family specifically, so double-check your model before ordering if you also own a Suunto 9 or 9 Baro. A few other Suunto watches need a different fit:

  • The plain Suunto 9 and 9 Baro use a wider 24mm band, not the 22mm width these bands are built for — don't confuse them with the 9 Peak, which does share the Race's 22mm width. The Suunto 7 is also 24mm.
  • The original Suunto 5 uses screw-attached, model-specific straps rather than quick-release bands, so it doesn't fit these either — only the 5 Peak takes a standard 22mm band.
  • Older Suunto lines — Spartan, Ambit, Core and Traverse — use 24mm or proprietary attachments and are not compatible with these bands.
